  • Turn off air con if possible
  • Slit lamp
    • I can see lots of debris and waxy build up on the base of youe lashes
    • It's not supposed to be there so we're going to do this procedure called zest
    • We use an aqua based solution which is non-toxic
      • ensure there is no allergy to saline or okra
    • We'going to make this a lot more comfortable for you.
    • You can think of it like going to the hygenist, but for your lids and lashes
  • Open everything up, and lay it out
    • include opening the saline.
    • may need scissors for the gel
  • Wear gloves or wash hands
  • Wear a mask

 

 

  • Open Zest gel pod
    • cut or twist tip
  • Dispense into the pods equally
    • close the side not is use

 

 

  • We're going to prepare the area around the eye to ensure that there isn't anything on the skin that may intereact with the zest treatment and affect the eficacy.
  • What these wipes do if clean away any moisturiser, traces of make up and suncream

 

  • Cleanse the eye using one of the sterile lid wipes

 

  • Set up the Px
    • Recline the head onto the headrest
    • Move the chin up and ask the Px to look down towards their knees
    • Ensure the Px is comfortable
    • Advise the patient that it will be a little bit stingy and to blink
      • subsides after 10 to 15 minutes

 

  • Use a swab to hold the skin taught
  • Completely coat the swab with Zest gel like you're about to wallpaper
    • Apply lots to the upper lash line and lid margin
      • agitate to become foamy like shampoo
    • use lateral, vertical (under lashes) & circular motions for 30-60 seconds 
      • Blink a few times to go onto the eye
      • Include the lid margin
      • look up to clean the margin with upstrokes
    • The upper lid takes twice as long as the lower lid
    • Wipe away the excess with the gauze swab already in use
    • Rinse with saline
      • wipe with a clean gauze swab and repeat rinsing as neccessary
  • Repeat for the lower lid
    • Px to look up

 

  • Ensure the Px is comfortable and happy
  • We're going to pause and review the lids and lashes through the slit lamp.
  • Talk through how well the procedure is going
  • If there is still some debris, then go back in and do some more & review

 

  • Once all clear, then irrigate the eye thoroughly using saline & wipe with gauze
    • Ask Px to blink onto the gauze
  • Repeat on the other eye using a fresh wipe and swab tip
